I built a 2.3 in my Pinto that would outrun the 300 cu in v8’s at the time. I discovered that by removing the EGR plate that the bolt pattern on the intake manifold was the exact same as the 2bbl from a 302. The one major weak point was oil to the wrist pins. My machine shop put chamfered holes in the bottom of the pistons to help the splash oiling.

What are you talking about All American ?????, That engine was NOT designed in the United States to start with It's a Ford European crossword engine designed and built by the Germans, it was first produced as a 1600 CC and the 2000 CC to power cars like the cortina back then These engines were produced back in the 80s to be used in the Ford Thunderbird / SVO mustang and for the purpose like Grand Prix racing boat racing and so on
