All 6! My understanding of being boiled alive is that it was a sentence for poisoning! I believe the cook of a Bishop of Rochester was boiled alive, but may well have just given people food poisoning

Anne Boleyn was originally going to be burnt at the stake but Henry changed it to beheading by the french swordsman as a last minute "act of mercy". 🙃

I didn't know the pressing one. they're all disgusting, but hung, drawn and quartered is the worst in my books

I always thought that the drawn part was when the intestines were drawn from the body. This would make more sense.

Why would you even conceive of BOILING a person alive? The manpower and materials it would require to create such a vessel, and transport it, and fill it, and keep feeding a fire under it until boiling... I mean, it's not like they had big butane burners as we do now. And afterwards?? Who dumps out the human soup, and how? Ugh I'm not trying to be gross but I just don't understand how this was accomplished, and more importantly, WHY.

On Pressing, I have some memory from somewhere (probably the first Horrible Histories book The Terrible Tudors? But maybe elsewhere), that while being Pressed, a smaller sharp stone would be put under a person's back, so that they wouldn't lie down flat?

Not sure if the series of the Tudors was correct but a bloke guilty of poisoning was offered head first into boiling oil 😬. Also I thought drawn (eviscerate) was removal of the guts 🤔

I read that the pressing was a board put on top of you but you also had something under your back like a block are a stone and as the stones were put on you it would get heavier and it would then break the person's back.

I disagree with your description of Hung, drawn and quartered. I have heard the condemned were hung until near death then their innards were drawn before being quartered.

You have the hung drawn and quartered wrong. Drawn is used in the same way we use to draw blood. But it was the way cattle were butchered. Raised by the neck, lowered, and lifted by the legs, cut around the anus and opened at the belly, the drawn bit. Then split down the spine, halved, then each half cut in two. Cattle are quartered even today. And flaying, removal of the skin was in play too.

The drawn bit was having your guts pulled or drawn out of you and burned in front of you...
