Have you ever been called crazy? Or have you ever called a woman crazy? I feel like it’s a term that is weaponised against us and I don’t know about you, but the fear of being labelled crazy or psycho meant that I tolerated behaviour that I shouldn’t have. It took me years to realise that it wasn’t ‘crazy’ to have boundaries or to call men out on bad behaviour. It’s called having respect for yourself. And I’m ashamed to admit I always used to call other women crazy - or be gleeful when a guy called his ex crazy. I guess it made me feel good! Now if a man calls his ex crazy I’d run a mile - it’s a giant red flag. I wonder if really she just called him out on his behaviour and he didn’t want to be held accountable. Anyway, I recently learned about the life of a lady called Elizabeth Packard and I began to learn the historical context behind women being labelled as crazy. And it made my blood boil - so I thought I’d share some of the things I discovered. I realised that our fear of being crazy is really just an extension of the sexism and misogyny that women have suffered for years. A way to silence or manipulate us. It also just made me so thankful for all the women in the past who fought so hard for our rights and made me more determined to continue the fight for ours. I hope younger girls are more empowered to have strong boundaries and less worried about being labelled as crazy. And I hope if anyone ever calls you crazy for wanting respect that you run… but not before giving them a history lesson. 😉⛳️💃 #fyp
