The amount of people who don’t understand that investigators say crazy sh*t to get confessions out of people! They literally will downplay abuse to get people to let their guard down and freely speak about what happened. Don’t you ever hear in interrogations “You’re not a bad guy, I know that! It’s not the officers fault they couldn’t arrest or keep him away right off the bat. All those orders come from higher up in the prosecution offices and they go based off evidence not just testimony because the law makes it clear and sometimes if they are going to ensure a conviction they don’t want to mess it up and not be able to charge based on lack of evidence or confession so they have to gather everything they can and sometimes that takes a little while but it’s all for the hopes of confidently putting them away for a long time.
