There’s sooo much grief, but I also think it’s an ego threat for a lot of people. If it is true that the world is going to change in major uncontrollable ways that shape it into something far different than what I was born into and envisioned in the future… if it’s true that with it, our society will change in ways that nothing prepared me for and which renders the image that I once had for my life irrelevant… then who am I?

I’ve tried writing this comment so many times in different ways. But thank you! For your intellectual perspective, but also for your compassion for people in denial. May they find truth and community🫶🏽

In the UK we’ve had a number of arson related wildfires in the last few weeks and guess what? If it wasn’t for climate change they would never have tuned into massive wildfires! And following the logic that climate change is making people bigger assholes, that also is partially what led to the arson in the bloody first place! There is no sensible way to deny what is happening all around us.

“Great minds think alike but fools seldom differ.” 👀 Soft science psychology person here— unfortunately they have made a community/cult of fools, where being informed and intelligent is something to be mocked, so I don’t think they will come over to the other side until they experience something within that community so shocking to their psyche that it makes them question the whole premise of it and their belonging to it. And it has to be something personal, because these folks also have rallied together around anti-empathy along with anti-science.

Honestly, the grief I’m feeling at the way a lot of people are reacting to the impacts of climate change exceeds the grief I feel about the issue itself. We’re making everything so much worse. 😭

I think there's too much onus put on the individual, and they dont know how to process it. no one person can change this, but we all could if we allowed community to flourish

I absolutely never tire of your takes and context. You make me feel less crazy over all of this. One of the worst parts of the wildfires is reading the climate deniers. Just denying stuff right in front of their faces.

In many ways, it’s a form of narcissism. People would rather hold to an internal narrative against all evidence, than face the mere possibility of their own fears

Genuinely curious why highlighting billionaire impact on the climate crisis is a way to hijack the conversation. They’re central to the conversation (assuming comments aren’t just pushing apathy and hopelessness, of course).

I'm reading sunrise on the reaping and literally earlier today read a line about this. Plutarch says something along the lines of people building lies to support what they want to be true

There's that old example of there is a correlation between higher homicide rates and higher ice cream sales during summers. So yea I can see more consistent heat making us more assholeish.

I took a climatology class in my geography degree and we had an assignment where we had to present and debunk a common climate change myth following breast practices and it was probably one of the most important things I've taken away from my degree so far

First, loved your video. I think as the climate chaos adds up, it will eventually convince them. Second, tell me about that ladder behind you.
