@vox: Why does Odysseus sound like he’s from Ohio? Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey gives its ancient Greek heroes American accents, breaking a long Hollywood tradition of making the ancient world sound British. The choice raises a bigger question. Why have we spent decades assuming kings, empires, and fantasy worlds should sound a certain way? This video explores how British accents became Hollywood’s shorthand for power, from classic epics to Star Wars and Gladiator. If those accents once represented power, what should power sound like now? #Odyssey #movies
it was really off putting hearing all the American accents. the rest of the film was so immersive but the moment two characters would start talking I was pulled out of it. such a waste, the opportunity to have Greek accents or speak entirely in Greek was right there
