@nytimes: The U.S. is in the midst of its worst year yet for cyclosporiasis, an intestinal illness caused by a parasite transmitted through food or water contaminated with feces. Julia Calderone, an associate editor for Well, explains how our reporters have been tracking the outbreak. So, the NYT is now doing the tracking work that the CDC formerly handled? 😳

The thing I don’t hear anyone talking about is the level of difficulty in getting tested for it. It’s nothing like colegard or a simple stool sample. You have to collect the diarrhea & use a slurpee-like spoon to fill 3 prescription sized containers with a preservative & drive it to a lab during lab hours so it can be sent out for testing you get back 2-3 days later. Imagine doing that task while having the worst nausea of your life. This has to be one of the most under-diagnosed things. We brought the kits home from ER after IV fluids but couldn’t do it. I don’t hear anyone talking about that part of this story.

I live in St. Louis, June 26 I started out with violent vomiting and fever, 2 days later the waterfall diarrhea started. I thought I had Norovirus at first, but 3 weeks later later I’ve been to the ER 3 times for IV fluids and lost 10 pounds. They are FINALLY testing me for this. I have yet to get my results back but Missouri was not prepared for this.

I also don’t think it was just lettuce. My poor baby was so sick for like a week and he doesn’t eat Taco Bell or iceberg lettuce.

NYT will print 10,000 words about something without ever blaming Republicans who are 100% responsible for this outbreak.

Stick to canned fruits and veggies. Along with using frozen. Stay away from fresh produce.

It is why companies like Taylor Farms MUST regularly test their process waters and product for contamination.

The admin who didn't want COVID testing due to 'bad' numbers likely has the same perspective on these bad numbers. Poop is political, when did America last have a shitting sickness like this running rampant?

If you have a phobia of vomiting and gastroenteritis then you have to eat cooked vegetables until this threat is eliminated. 🙁

Taco Bell knew well before…. It’s why they voluntarily stopped adding the lettuce. Absolutely nothing has improved with this current administration. The FDA is a joke. Everything’s just gotten worse.
