I feel like Nick was scared as hell that Charlie & him would drift apart if they were to do long-distance or something considering Nick NEVER wants to lose the guy he loves. But, it also could stemmed from the fact he’s the son of divorced parents, he didn’t want his relationship with Charlie end up like his mom & dad since he didn’t have the best example with his parents growing up, especially with a father who was the one that left Nick. But, if Nick didn’t want to break up, then why would he say that? Unless he misunderstood Charlie when Charlie suggested that they could use space from each other to focus on themselves while they could focus on each other when they see each other again
