Schooling is serious business……. Parents should not be persuaded by the Small funds that they will be receiving.. as a former retired principal in Miami Dade County public schools, I can tell you that unless it’s done properly, the child will suffer at the end. The student will still need to take a standardized test, and unless they are thoroughly prepared, they will not do well. And what is wrong with public education it worked for all of us??????? in addition, if you have a child with special needs the school system will be able to help you with an individual education plan specifically for that child who have some type of learning disability. I personally think it takes a committed parent who is thoroughly involved in their child’s learning not just to say you’ll get a check because it’s not that easy if you want your child to be successful in life.

Everyone who’s against homeschooling needs to keep scrolling, if it don’t apply let that it fly 🤷🏾‍♀️it’s like watching someone pick up a shoe that didn’t fit YOU and telling them it’s not gonna work for them, let ppl figure out what helps and what’s doesn’t

For anyone with a child with a disability, regarding private schools (not homeschool), make sure you do your research on whether the school allow RBTs/BCBAs and any resources needed for your child at the private schools. I guess it depends on where you are, but private schools have their own rules and in the end it may not be in the best interest for your child. Just do your due diligence and research. A lot of times private schools say they accept StepUp-UA, but if your child can’t “function” in their classroom, what’s the point of the scholarship if it’s not the right setting? Just putting it out there cause some of these comments have me thinking some people thinking it’s just straight up cash. It goes directly to the school (if they’re an approved organization) or you have to get reimbursed-meaning you have to pay out of pocket and then the money goes to your account almost 2 weeks later. Again, just do your research cause there’s a lot of details. Not sure if this is different for the other scholarship divisions-my experience is only UA. Just my 2 cents.

I had put my oldest in a charter high school. Worst thing I ever did. He went to Keys Gate. I eventually took him out and he finished in South Dade High here in Homestead. My next 2 boys also graduated there and now my daughter is graduating this year there also. Charter schools are all hype and garbage. My son spent a year with nothing but substitute teachers and wasn't learning anything. He literally complained to me every day.

My fear is that parents will get the money and not educate their kids. Public schools are being defunded because charter schools and private schools are seen as the cure all for poor academic outcomes. The lack parent participation/parenting in the lay 10 years has negatively affected public schools. Education has to be teachers, parents and students working together💯🤔

I agree about Somerset my daughter went for 1/2 a semester 6 grade year in North Florida and I volunteered quite often. When I saw she wasn’t learning anything I took her out expeditiously and sent her to public school where she went on to succeed. Although, she went to a Charter in elementary and stayed on the honor roll, I realized after elementary; charters were a no go.

You make it sound like Miami Dade County is paying what it is so sad to see how people fall into the goverment control system. 7000 dollar is nothing for a year. You’re better off sending your kid to a private or charter school. Because if I am going to home school my kids it would cost a lot more.
