Hi! I'm from Argentina and I'd like to clear up a misconception I keep seeing in the comments: why are there so few Black people in Argentina? Argentina is a very diverse country. My own family is a mix of Italian and Indigenous ancestry, which is very common here. It's a myth that there are no Black people in Argentina. Afro-Argentinians have been part of our history since colonial times. National heroes like María Remedios del Valle (I'll include her picture at the end), the "Mother of the Nation," and Sergeant Juan Bautista Cabral fought for our independence (you can even look up the March of San Lorenzo, which honors Cabral's sacrifice). In 1813, Argentina abolished the slave trade and passed the Law of Free Wombs (Ley de Vientres Libres), so children born to enslaved women were born free. Slavery was completely abolished later, in 1853. Because the slave trade ended earlier than in many other countries, and due to centuries of intermingling, Argentina has a smaller Afro-descendant population than many other countries in the Americas. That doesn't mean Black Argentinians never existed; they have always been part of our history. I hope this helps! ☺️💗
