my interpretation was that throughout the movie they warned that any normal human could be a god in disguise so be careful how u treat others, so during the trojan war, them killing a random girl that turns out to be athena is the ultimate breaking of zeuses law.

I love everyone’s different takes on this. Mine is that she wasn’t Athena at all and was just a manifestation of his guilt. She was almost like his conscience in a way idk but I don’t think it was the actual goddess

I thought it was a metaphor, them killing and slaughtering in front of athena under a gift of "peace" in her name. Then causing inncocent deaths in front of her statue, was like killing athena and everything she represents and stands for. At least how I took it

The way that I interpreted this in more of a psychological way. Because the Trojan girl was decapitated at the same time as the Athena statue right in front of Odysseus, his psyche immediately associates her face with Athena. Her consistently reappearing to him is just his moral conscience reminding him of what he did.

It also goes with the theme of “anyone can be a God so you should treat them well,” because now a God is appearing as someone that wasn’t treated well. Both a reminder of the rule/law they broke, but also messing with him with the “what if that actually was me?” torture. Then it’s not just breaking the rule, but also wondering if that was actually a god they attacked…

i really liked that they didn’t show the gods as people as per zendaya i love how they showed her as a greek girl because you never really know that a god can appear as a person and i interpreted that as like a wake up call for our humanity like why is there so much hate and anger why can’t we love one another

i interpreted it that there are actually no gods in this film at all, athena is just manifestation of his guilt, the Poseidon's curse is also just soldiers blaming it on him it's just weather, and it's supposed to show how it's people that bring doom and cruelty upon themselves no gods needed.
