@nobodyfwme5: On September 11, 2001, at 9:37 a.m., American Airlines Flight 77, which had been hijacked by five terrorists, crashed into the western side of the Pentagon, the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Defense. The impact caused a massive explosion and fire, and part of the building collapsed about 30 minutes later. All 64 people aboard the plane and 125 people inside the Pentagon were killed, for a total of 189 lives lost in the attack. The Pentagon attack was one of four coordinated terrorist attacks carried out that day, making September 11 one of the deadliest days in U.S. history. The victims are remembered each year for the lives they lost and the lasting impact the attacks had on the nation.
