These are the reasons the comments of ‘we don’t need the series’ just feel like they are coming from those that didn’t grow up reading the books. They are movie fans only, and that’s ok. But this series should pick up on what the movies didn’t, they have more time to really flesh these things out and show the complexities of the characters

I thought Gary Oldmam being a but older worked. Sirius should have looked a bit ragged and aged after all those years in Azkaban.

Yes. Modern books readers won’t really understand how complex Sirius’ death was because each book release afterwards was two years apart so if you didn’t believe he was gone you spent years denying, waiting, processing, it really was the five stages of grief

In addition, that's why the statement "Nice one James" in Order of the Phoenix hurt Harry more - but you don't get that as much in the movies because it seems like a moment of weakness rather than the books using it as a point the Sirius really only saw Harry as James 2.0

Harry’s grief in the book is so different in the books too, partially because Harry was smoothed around the edges in the movie but because in the books he felt somewhat responsible for Sirius. He had to be the more mature one and when he acted recklessly and went into the trap, he blamed himself. It’s a massive turning point for Harry, he becomes depressed similar to after Cedric’s death and Voldemort’s resurrection but he also curbs his impulses more. He takes more responsibility and starts to see things in a more mature lens.

Gary Goldman infamously said that he wishes he would have taken this role more seriously. He knows he could have done better. He said that knowing the direction. So when you say it was the director, you are not completely correct.

I’m rewatching all the movies in the theater for the 25th anniversary. (One more to go today.) One thing that I’ve really noticed is how much the movies flattened out the details and nuance. I know why and the movies have things the books don’t, but somehow it’s much more noticeable on the big screen after 25 years of rereading the books and only watching on a little screen occasionally

I think it's good decision casting older actor to show viewers how dementors can drain "life" from you

Sirius, Ron, Dumbledore, Ginny, Tom Riddle and Harry have such better nuance and complexity in the books that the movies just make so flat

In the book OOTP, Hermione tries to articulate her concerns about Sirius, when he approves of DA. That his approval was a red flag

Thats one of the biggest flops in the movies.. All the adults looks so much older then the should.. Sirius should be what 35 and he looks almost 50.. I think you would understand his caracter better if he actually looked like a young man

I would argue that Sirius sees himself as a father figure, he just had a warped sense of fatherhood so he tried to recreate what he thought James would want him to be. He lived off rats in those mountains, just to be near Harry. I think he was just an immature guy who saw fatherhood through the lens of friendship.
