@teachwithbrittany: here are the ✨FIVE THINGS✨ I wish someone told me before my first year of teaching🍎 : 1. ⭐️ your classroom doesn’t have to be Pinterest-perfect. your students won’t remember your bulletin boards – they’ll remember how your classroom felt. start with functional & you can always add the cute stuff later! 2. 📝 be firm at the beginning so you can have fun all year. high expectations & clear routines create freedom later. it’s easier to loosen up than to tighten things back up. 3. ⏰ don’t stay late every day. teaching will always give you more work than you can finish. protect your evenings when you can. a rested teacher is a better teacher! 4. 📚 borrow before you reinvent. you don’t have to create every lesson or activity from scratch. ask teammates, use trusted resources, & save your energy for the things that matter most. 5. 💛 give yourself grace. you’re not supposed to have all the answers your first year. every experienced teacher was once the person wondering if they’re doing anything right!! ⬇️⬇️ ✨what would you add??✨ drop your best advice in the comments #tea#teachertoka#teacheradvicer#firstyearteachera#classroomidease#elementaryteacher
You will feel like you have NO idea what you’re doing at first! I thought I was the only one who felt this way but that’s so far from the truth. You learn SO much your first year and you really do figure it out as you go. Ask allllll the questions, try new things, and be reflective!!!

Great advice!!!! I would add be okay with adjusting / changing/ throwing something out if you need to even if you have a perfect plan. also DONT PUT EVERY SINGLE THING INTO THE GRADE BOOK! It'll eat up all your time !
