Girl it wasn't like they were giving her fun pills or pills to feed an addiction- they gave her anti psychotics, antidepressants and benzos. They failed her. She was trying to get help because none of the doctors were helping her symptoms

This is just an unfortunate case of the system failing a woman going through Postpartum psychosis. Just because she didn’t disclose the worst of her thoughts doesn’t mean she wasn’t failed, considering the suicidality should have been addressed.

and maybe a patient like her in the future could benefit from more non-judgmental conversation about what she is experiencing. I imagine she was desperate to feel like herself again and perhaps didn’t think she could be experiencing psychosis given so many myths and assumptions about what psychosis looks like.

The fact that she told person after person that she was suicidal is enough to show she was failed. Every person who failed her should be changed IMHO.

I work in Mobile crisis as a mobile crisis clinician and psychosis is a spectrum for some people it is chronic and comes on slowly. For other people it develops very rapidly. it's not really something you can judge on the internet...

there is a lawsuit because of the list of psych drugs she was on. there’s a good chance she wasn’t psychotic when she went looking for help for ppd, but a list of meds like that would definitely put you there.

Exactly. People are acting like everyone should assume responsibility but her.

Perhaps she had insight before she got worse and then went into full psychosis

She never gave any of the medications enough time to work. Then went to different drs got on more stuff. I also think it’s wild to say it’s post partum 9 months after giving birth

So I worked as a psych nurse for five years. A lot of times people will deny hearing voices, but will respond to internal stimuli. You would be surprised who has psychosis.

The doctors failed her. She should have been hospitalized in an inpatient psych unit. Doctors just continued prescribing more and more drugs without monitoring her

she did. that's why she tried to admit herself multiple times to a treatment facility. she is not blameless but she was horribly failed by our medical system

She may have known she was experiencing depression or that something was “wrong” without having insight into being psychotic. This happens all the time

Well, I understand this some people genuinely can tell when they are slipping into a psychotic break or psychosis. As someone who struggles with extreme anxiety to the point where I start losing my sense of reality, you can tell, especially if that happens overtime. And also, yeah, she didn’t come into the doctor in full psychosis, but then she was given 13 different medication’s on and off for three months. Any person who would be put on and taken off of 13 different antidepressants/psychotics within three months is bound to go through psychosis

I don't understand why she was being treated by a NMW and not a psychiatrist given how sick she was. Something is off about this. It is all so sad

She was a nurse she knew exactly what to say and not say. If she was hearing voices there is no way she was going to share it. She was looking for the right meds to help silence her mind. Going to the same doctor, she knew they weren’t going to switch so many meds in such a short time.

30+ years ago, a family member of mine likely experienced postpartum psychosis. She didn’t have auditory or visual hallucinations however she experienced “baby blues” that progressed quickly into very distorted thoughts that she felt deeply ashamed of. It was the only time in her life she experienced this and if someone asked her about psychosis, she wouldn’t have believed it.
