Tony :
So as a doctor: we want to help you medically, but if we don’t have the data our first thought is to get the necessary labs/tests to get the data to move forward in care. Frankly, insurance issues are usually a back office thing we don’t deal with. The even more frustrating thing is if the studies need to be reached out for form that previous office, you as a patient have had your time wasted, the doctor has had their time wasted, and a spot was lost for another patient. It sucks all around. But sadly, there has to be an expectation that patients are their best advocates. I just don’t have enough brain glucose to review a patients chart to re-educate myself on their past medical Hx, then review insurance and documentation issues, then do the patient appt, then document afterwards…then do all the bureaucratic extras with messages from patients, expectations from leadership, drug refills, previous test results, current patients in the hospital etc… like the system sucks, but doctors can’t be all to blame. I assure you no one goes into this to do a crappy job, no one loses 7+ years of their life and hundreds of thousands of debt to finally make a decent career to just be incompetent for their patients. Theirs just not enough time and resources…
