@philecia1: My name is Philecia, and I've been living with stage 4 breast cancer since 2018. I was just 29 years old when I found a lump. I didn't have health insurance, so I went to a free clinic. After an ultrasound and bloodwork they told me everything looked fine. I asked for a mammogram twice, but both requests were denied because I was "too young" and had no family history. Just before my 30th birthday the lump was getting worse, so I went back and that's when I was told it is breast cancer and it had spread to my lymph nodes, both lungs, and sternum. I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. After several rounds of chemotherapy and having my ovaries, fallopian tubes removed I reached no evidence of disease and remained on oral chemo for 4 years. I finally felt like I had my life back. Then, in 2023, everything changed. My cancer returned more aggressively than ever, along with a second type of breast cancer. I had a double mastectomy and reconstruction, endured infections, hospitalizations, reconstructive surgeries, countless procedures, and treatment after treatment. Despite fighting with everything I have, the cancer continues to spread. Today it's in my liver, adrenal gland, spine, and multiple lymph nodes throughout my chest and neck. Two months ago, I tried a treatment that devastated both my mental and physical health. I'm slowly recovering, but now I'm on another chemotherapy that caused my hair to fall out. Just a few days ago, I shaved my head. In 8 years of this fight, I've never asked for financial help. (A friend started a GFM in 2018 that helped freeze my eggs) During COVID, I started a business and worked multiple jobs to keep myself afloat. I've always done everything I could to support myself while battling cancer. But I've reached a point where I need to put my energy into surviving. My health insurance alone is nearly $900 every month, and the constant appointments, scans, travel, and treatments have made working consistently almost impossible. Alongside conventional treatment, I'm pursuing every option available. I'm establishing care with MD Anderson in Houston and traveling back and forth for appointments, while also exploring holistic therapies in Mexico and here in the states, none of that is covered by insurance. Asking for help is one of the hardest things I've ever done. It comes with more guilt than I can describe. But after months of encouragement from my family, friends, and this incredible community, I've realized I can't carry this alone anymore.
