THANK you for addressing how they adultified matt proxxy. I kept seeing comments and tweets saying “grown ass man bullying a teenager” only to find out Matt is a YEAR older than Martin.

as someone who does enjoy cortis’ music, it’s so obviously basically reproductions of songs and genres built by african american people, everyone who says other wise is ignorant

you kinda of touch on it in the video, but i would like to add on how cortis fans will blatantly ignore rappers who made music far before cortis and still do who and that the cortis members are inspired by,, one example is that so many people were astonished tha cortis made a song in a few minutes with a beat off youtube and lyrics they made in seconds, but a lot rappers that have been left far behind because of their talent, race, etc. go unnoticed even though they do the same thing

They say NewJeans copied pink, however the woman that worked with NewJeans (Erika De Casier) was the creator of many specific styles that sparked the UK Garage revival, Slow and intimate sounds, and the genres associated with NewJeans’ EP “get up”. She wrote most of the songs for the EP, In interviews, she explained that ADOR invited her and several other songwriters to songwriting sessions in Copenhagen. She said “ASAP” was one of the first songs they created together, and that demos of all the songs exist with her singing them. She also mentioned that the melodies for “Cool With You” came from a very playful brainstorming session with songwriter Fine Glindvad Jensen, it was in 2019-2020. Her style has always consistently had this atmosphere way before Pink even debuted and went mainstream, so I don’t understand the comparison between NewJeans and CORTIS, NewJeans have shown so much appreciation to Black people, they recommend their music, they worked with producers like Pharrell Williams on their Track Supernatural which is heavily inspired by the New jack Swing genre and has Retro Japanese elements, 4/5 of the songs they covered in ComplexCon were from Black artists in supoort of their work, CORTIS does appropriation, NewJeans does appreciation.

the point about cortis vs. njz is so good because as much as i've seen them be compared to each other i could always tell they were different but i couldn't exactly pinpoint why

The last point is so true, the amount of people, including adults, presenting the Matt proxy (19yrs old) situation like he was some 30 year old man hating on an innocent little teen was bewildering.

i feel like people moved passed the jane situation too quickly. people took jane's words, twisted it and decided to call her the t slur every other sentence. the reason she doesn't like cortis is the same reason as matt's. jane has been making music in her bedroom by themselves, producing, mixing, engineering, lyrics and vocals themselves since they were 13. the most she's had is festivals and they didn't even headline them. jane dislikes cortis because of the fact they want to profit off of the underground when they're not underground at all. then coers go out and decide to be transphobic? coers are really some of the worst people out there and i will die on that hill.

also another thing added to the last point i dont see is that asian men(and people to an extent) are often infantalized and emasculated and are seen as "soft" compared to men of other races. i feel like it is a stereotype that these fans play into the same way they've adultifyed anybody speaking against them(who are often black!) by saying shit like that, or the whole "they live in korea how could they know better😔?" shit too (idk if this is understandable or worded this correctly)

Cortis wants to be black and underground…they want the struggling and made it successful look when they come from a billion dollar company. Many black rappers come from nothing and make it something and Cortis wants this aesthetic

I think the whole underground aesthetics they like playing into is also factored by the fact their pioneers (bts) had grown from that exact story, they were once upon a time locked away from much access in korean entertainment and because of that, stood out by doing things "differently". This rags-to-riches-ish they cosplay might also be an attempt at trying to widen their audiences while being actually away from the struggle that comes with being from lesser known companies. hybe&bighit might've thought they struck gold once so they can do it again, but with lesser actual challenges since the whole bts's younger brothers (txt) was such a double-edged sword, they decided to go back to the concept that got them to where they are now as a corporation. either way, such a blatant disregard of the roots of a genre they so enjoy is the biggest reason as to why things aren't boding well with hybe pushing them into the western market exactly as they are now
