Every now and then I get comments or dms about how my male characters are too emotional, or affectionate, or feminine because they sometimes weep, or love their friends, or aren’t 250 pounds of muscle with beards and battle-scars. I try to be a biblical girl. My goal is to always to base my beliefs on scripture instead of “Christian culture”, and what I’ve found is many modern Christian beliefs—especially when it comes to manliness or femininity—aren’t necessarily biblical. Maybe not all bad, but they put a whole group into a box when each person is uniquely designed and called. When Paul says “Men, act like men” It’s easy to assume what he’s saying. But Paul also writes 2 Corinthians 2:4 - “For I wrote you out of great distress and anguish of heart and with many tears, not to grieve you but to let you know the depth of my love for you.” Maybe biblical masculinity is about the ability to lead selflessly, to show self control and strength, but also tenderness and vulnerability. Jesus was all of these things. It even seems silly to discuss whether men should be allowed to show raw emotion, and weep if they need to, and yet I’ve heard this discussed over and over. In the Bible, men are actually described to weep much more than women. The man of all men, Jesus, wept more than once. Here are a few verses that specifically talk about it. 💕 John 11:35 - “Jesus wept.” Luke 19:41 - “As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it.” Hebrews 5:7 - “He offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death.” Volume one of my series about Jesus and His we’ve disciples is out on Amazon, or you can subscribe and read for free on the Webtoon app.🩷 #MentalHealthAwareness #healing #christiantiktok #biblestudy #arttok
