The biggest flaw of this argument is that the evil characters you are giving an example of are written to be evil. They are liked because they are well written and stable villains. There's no "he can be redeemed because he had a bad childhood and that made his actions valid" argument against any of them. Rudeus on the other hand is a bad person whose bad actions don't really get compensated for enough. And the series treats his actions, and him in general as this saint like person majority of the time. I love MT and rudeus as well, but I never understand the people defending him to grave. He is a bad person, he's clearly better than the villains you mentioned because he's not a villain, but that doesn't change the fact that he is a flawed and bad person
