My daughter turned 12. I lost access. I asked her if she is ok with sharing medical info with me. She said “Of course”! I took her to the doctor and she signed the forms. Now I have access. What is the problem here?

It's not "wild." These laws exist to protect children who aren't in safe, loving, or supportive homes. They don't take away parent's rights to all medical decisions. They only provide confidentiality for certain sensitive services so vulnerable kids can get help without fear of abuse, punishment, or being prevented from receiving care.

Actually, this makes sense. They want it to be safe for adolescents to go to the doctor. My daughter signed a medical release for me to be able to access. But I also respected her privacy.

Everyone freaking out was obviously never abused as a child. As an adolescent I wish there were times my mom was not allowed in the room during a doctor's visit.

my child is developmentally delayed, her mychart became private at 12, went to the doctor, we spoke about it, my kid approved me having the info. problem solved.

I know it’s wild thinking about this for a little boy but think about this for little girls… at 12 and 13 some girls can become pregnant and some young tweens are having sex and not having a parent watching their medical records can allow for the necessary care and help to be more accessible to them. I’m not saying that any of that is correct but it does happen and the parental response that happens when they find this out can in many cases discourage children from seeking medical attention or inspire serious abuse.
