Peace in the world :
As a former Christian, I left Christianity because I had too many questions that I couldn’t reconcile. I struggled with the doctrine of the Trinity and the belief that God died for three days and then rose again. I was told Jesus died for my sins, yet I couldn’t understand how that fit with the belief that he is alive. Whenever I asked questions, I often felt I was simply told to “just believe” rather than being given answers that satisfied me.
I also struggled with the symbolic descriptions used for Jesus in the Bible. For example, he is called the Lamb of God (John 1:29), the Lion of the tribe of Judah (Revelation 5:5), the Good Shepherd (John 10:11), and in Psalm 22:6 it says, “I am a worm and not a man.” I understand Christians interpret these symbolically, but personally I couldn’t reconcile these descriptions with my understanding of the Creator.
I also found it difficult to understand passages that describe violence, such as Deuteronomy 20:16–17, where certain cities are commanded to be completely destroyed; 1 Samuel 15:3, which includes instructions to kill men, women, children and infants; and Numbers 31:17–18, which speaks about killing the Midianite males and non-virgin women while sparing the virgin girls. These passages raised moral questions for me that I couldn’t resolve.
I also struggled with verses about women, such as 1 Timothy 2:11–12, where women are told to learn in silence and are not permitted to teach or have authority over men; 1 Corinthians 14:34–35, where women are instructed to remain silent in the churches; and Ephesians 5:22–24, where wives are instructed to submit to their husbands. Although I know Christians interpret these passages in different ways, I personally found them difficult to reconcile with my understanding of the dignity and role of women.
When I began exploring other religions, I actually left Islam until last because I had been taught that Islam was a violent religion that oppressed women. But I decided to read the Qur’an and study Islam for myself instead of relying on what other people said. To my surprise, I found the opposite of what I had been taught ⬇️
