This morning, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) chaired a strategic security meeting bringing together all Regional Police Commanders (RPCs), Regional Criminal Investigations Directors (RCIDs), Regional Community Liaison Officers (RCIs), and District Police Commanders (DPCs) to assess security preparedness for the upcoming Local Council elections and strengthen strategies to combat rural and agriculture-related theft. The IGP urged all commanders to draw lessons from the January 2026 General Elections and apply the best practices to ensure the Local Council elections are conducted in a secure, peaceful, and transparent environment. During the meeting, the Director of Operations, AIGP Frank Mwesigwa, presented strategies aimed at tackling rural crime. He called upon commanders to enhance intelligence gathering, improve operational responses, and ensure that policing efforts effectively address the growing challenge of rural and agricultural theft. He emphasized that protecting agricultural production is essential to guaranteeing food security and supporting government wealth creation initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM).
