I think the only reason people even like Draco is because (unlike Snape) Harry, Hermione and Ron were unbothered by his bullying, they had bigger things to worry about.

I like Draco's character but I do think the fandom misses the point of the Malfoys. It's basically an example of the banality of evil. They were a loving family who only cared about themselves and who can use the "we were only doing what the dark lord made us do" to justify their actions. Draco was not an absd child, he was pampered and loved and made choices no teenager should make but he made them nonetheless.

It's not about defending Draco. It's about the fact that we believe the Marauders were far worse than he ever was. Draco was a cowardly bully whose bullying was almost entirely verbal. He never resorted to physical bullying. In fact, there are many scenes where Draco is the one being physically attacked by other characters. Yes, his mouth often got him into trouble, but that's beside the point. He didn't physically bully anyone until his sexth year, when Voldemort forced him to carry out Dumbledore's murder or his family would be killed. The Marauders, on the other hand, were real bullies. They targeted people with no power and abused them both physically and verbally. They were cruel for no justifiable reason. And don't tell me that an 11-year-old Snape somehow deserved to be bullied, or that the Marauders had the gift of prophecy and knew he would join a prejudiced group years later, so they decided to physically abuse him and make his life miserable. James and Sirius also sexually humiliated Snape. That's something unique to the Marauders no other major characters are shown doing anything like that and it's far worse than wanting to ☠️someone.

As a 'normal' Draco fan, I know that Draco bullied Harry, Ron and Hermione and that his parents loved him, for that there isn't really defending him for being a bully. But I still love him for multiple reason, and not only because Tom Felton is handsome. I feel like I am quite like him in real life, except that I never bullied anyone, I understand him for many things. But Draco didn't liked to be a death eather tho even in the books he disliked it when he had to kill Dumbledore, but I like him also because in the end he changed, he became a better person, choose to marry Astoria Greengrass for love, raised his son in the right way and became better.
