@the.legal.np: For generations, women’s symptoms have too often been filtered through a psychosocial lens before a medical one. The word “hysteria” wasn’t just a diagnosis, it shaped how women were treated for centuries. Today, we call it anchoring bias: when an early label influences every decision that follows. Sometimes it’s anxiety. Sometimes it’s “she’s just stressed.” And sometimes, that bias delays the diagnosis of a very real medical condition. We can acknowledge history without repeating it. @Lauren Musso Tarquinio thanks for sharing your story ♥️ #obgyn #postpartum #hyperemesisgravidarum #hyperemesisgravidarumawareness #anxiety

Was told I was having anxiety after I had an emergency c section, multiple times telling the nurse something was wrong and her telling my mom and husband I was just anxious….i coded..was bleeding out internally. Ended up with the works, trache, peg, dialysis…. Grateful to have eventually recovered but, it’s definitely not always anxiety

another phrase that should make you pucker is, "symptoms secondary to obesity" over and over when a patient presents with chronic symptoms.

"What else could this be?" was always on my mind during my 46 yr R.N. career. An open mind is SO much safer than a closed one. When I was pregnant with my youngest son, I had severe GERD/ nausea/vomiting for 8 out of 9 mths. My doctor was going to admit me at one time if I lost 5 more pounds but I somehow maintained my 105# weight (quite underweight for my height). I lived on mostly soda crackers & jello except for the 1 mth. I found out that my OB/GYN & his NP did not realize the gravity of my situation when I started showing signs of impending preclampsia towards the end of my pregnancy. The NP advised me to cut out salty foods such as cold cuts. I told her I hadn't been able to eat any type of meat for most of my pregnancy, but I had most certainly never been able to eat cold cuts (not even during that 1 mth). My BP the day after my son was born was 190/120. My feet were double their normal size. By some miracle, my son weighed 9#!

I was told I had anxiety after being in excruciating pain for hours in L&D triage. My doctor sent me to the ED where I had a CT scan at 37 weeks gestation. I remember hoping they would find something so that they would know I was seriously not well. Sure enough, they found an adrenal vein thrombosis that caused the organ to completely fail when I was postpartum. We need to listen and not label.

I work in medical malpractice and EVERY TIME I hear these same phrases from potential clients I have concerns. Too many times people are discounted for "overreacting" and when it comes to life changing situations, it's worth determining if it's psychological or not.

Well over a decade of hearing "it's just anxiety" or "anxiety and depression" or "this is normal what do you expect?" Turns out, it was a ferritin level of 2, severe POTS, MCAS, EDS, and a positive EMG and nerve biopsy. Do I also have anxiety and depression? Yes. But I would love to see providers recognize that you can have anxiety and depression AND there still be something wrong with you.

🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️In reality I had a very active 10 cm pheochromocytoma! It was years before it was discovered through an incidental finding when they thought I had a PE (I didn’t). Years of misdiagnosis almost killed me.

I DO have medical ptsd. Long story dealing with my cabcer diagnosis I won’t get into. Among other gaslighting and dismissal episodes. But I also have conditions that mimic anxiety like pots adrenaline dumps. It truly sucks to be gaslit.

I'm very concerned if I ever have to go to the E.R, because I am on SSRI's and have GAD, that I will not be taken seriously for cardiac symptoms. It's the dismissal that scares me. Had a friend that died in his sleep of a heart condition, age 31, because he was a young athlete and having chest pain that it was "just anxiety". No cardiac work up

I took care of two women - one I'm her 40s and the other in her 30 - who were dismissed as having "anxiety." The way they bith advocated fir themselves was remarkable! Glad they did because both were having active cardiac events!

I had HG during my first pregnancy and at the end I began to hallucinate and was incredibly thirsty. I was uncomfortable and my OB said I was 9 months pregnant I wasn’t supposed to be comfortable. I went into labor 2 days later at 38w4d. I almost died and my son was stillborn. By the time he was delivered 60% of my placenta was dead. He passed from meconium aspiration. OB said he believed I had Acute Fatty Liver of Pregnancy. I spent 2 weeks in the hospital recovering. Wrote his obituary, was discharged from the hospital, planned and attended his funeral. It’s been 16yrs, no answers. I did seek legal counsel that drug out “investigating” the 2yrs statute of limitations went by and I was told to just grieve and move on 🤷🏼‍♀️

My “anxiety” “psychosomatic symptoms” or at least what a doctor tried to blame it on….. was multiple cranial nerve damage with progressive tongue atrophy. I have swallowing issues now. I also have a IgM paraprotein. And waiting to see my 2nd hem/onc doctor. I have fought so hard to get where I’m at. I’m an ICU nurse. Our system is broken.

I was told my symptoms were “Just anxiety.” After three years of begging to be taken seriously, I was formally diagnosed with Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension. I do have an anxiety disorder; I just wish every symptom wasn’t disregarded as just anxiety. Thank you for everything you do in these education videos. Rest in peace to the sweet baby in this video. His mama deserved so much better care and regard from her care team.

I don’t understand why, if there are abnormalities for medical conditions that can be tested for first- is that not done? Always rule out a medical cause before making an assumption that something is ‘psychological’
