@aussiemammoth1: My brothers and sisters, we spend so much of our lives worrying about things that will never benefit us in the next world—designer labels, expensive brands, wealth, status and material possessions. But when death comes, none of it has any value. As someone who washes the deceased, I can tell you that every title is stripped away. The wealthy and the poor, the famous and the unknown, all become the same. Even their names are replaced with “the deceased.” One thing many people don’t realise is that we often have to cut the clothing off the deceased. It is often too difficult, or would cause unnecessary movement, to remove the clothes the way they were put on. So they are carefully cut away. Sometimes those clothes are worth thousands of dollars, covered in designer labels and luxury brands. The person who wore them never imagined they would one day be cut off and left behind forever. The shroud has no labels. It has no pockets. It reminds us that we leave this world with nothing except our actions and deeds. Allah says: “Competition in worldly increase diverts you, until you visit the graves.” (Qur’an 102:1–2) So prepare for the garment that truly matters—the garment of righteousness.
