We were SO excited to bring Birdie to the beach with her new wheels🥹🌊🛞 Honestly… I think all of us pictured the same thing! We imagined she’d take off flying down the beach faster than ever before🥲 But that’s not what happened. She didn’t want to take even a single step. We spent the entire afternoon encouraging her and cheering her on but she was nervous, confused, and just stood there shaking. So before the sun set, we took her out of the wheelchair… and she literally jumped for joy!!😅 She took off running down the beach with the biggest smile on her face, just as she’s been doing every day since we rescued her💕 It was the sweetest reminder that while it’s easy for us humans to focus on what she doesn’t have and the things we think she “needs” to become capable, Birdie has never focused on any of that. She simply learned to live the life she was given. She adapted, she overcame, and she found joy anyway. Her resilience is inspiring, and the greatest gift we could ever give her isn’t a wheelchair… it’s a life filled with love🤍 That doesn’t mean we’re giving up on the wheelchair, just like anything new, confidence takes time. This morning we tried again… and once again, she wasn’t quite ready. The wheelchair is simply a tool. If it gives Birdie more freedom, less pain, and a happier life, we’ll celebrate every step she takes in it! If she continues to show us signs that it’s not the tool for her, that’s perfectly ok too! This is Birdie’s journey, we’re just lucky enough to walk beside her🐾🫶🏼
