@afshaology: Therapists, counsellors, coaches and psychologists can’t read minds. What we are trained to do is notice. The hesitation before answering a question. The change in tone. The forced smile. The tears held back. The way someone sits, avoids eye contact, or suddenly goes quiet. Sometimes people struggle to find the words for what they’re feeling, but their body is already communicating it. Of course, we don’t assume or jump to conclusions. We simply pay attention to both the spoken and unspoken, and gently explore what might be happening beneath the surface. The therapeutic relationship isn’t about mind-reading.
