I was told that tribal wars ended in Papua New Guinea decades ago, but that isn’t necessarily true at all. Land disputes are still extremely common and while tourists/foreigners are never the target, the skirmishes can rapidly escalate and you do *not* want to be caught in the cross-fires if that happens. There was a small dispute down the road from where I was staying at a traveler’s lodge - the main, and only road - that connects the two villages. I was trying to reach the next tribe over, and since there was active fighting on the road, we took the next best route and swam for it. Luckily, once nightfall comes all of the fighting stops - so we were able to take the main road back to our village at night. #katiecaftravel #papuanewguinea #travelvlog #solofemaletravel #tribes
