@bnkyghosts: During World War II, the U.S. government forced approximately 120,000 Japanese Americans into isolated incarceration camps. Authorized by Executive Order 9066 in February 1942, the policy uprooted entire communities, forcing them to live under armed guard in desolate regions across the Western United States.Following the December 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, intense wartime hysteria and racial prejudice fueled a campaign against Japanese Americans. Executive Order 9066 permitted the military to remove any person of Japanese ancestry from the West Coast. Approximately two-thirds of those incarcerated were U.S. citizens, including thousands of children and the elderly. With as little as six days' notice, families were forced to abandon their homes, careers, and possessions, losing an estimated $400 million in property.Victims were initially sent to temporary "assembly centers"—often reconfigured fairgrounds and racetracks—before being moved to one of ten permanent "relocation centers" #fyp #viral #ghost #yarttok
