دوستويفسكي • نيتشه رسم هانز هولباين الأصغر لوحة "جسد المسيح الميت في القبر" بين عامي ١٥٢١ و١٥٢٢، وهي صورة أفقية صادمة، بأبعاد ٣٠.٥ × ٢٠٠ سم تقريبًا، تجبرك على النظر إلى المسيح كجثة حقيقية، لا كرمز. وهي معروضة في متحف بازل للفنون، حتى أن تاريخها وأحرف هولباين الأولى محفورة فيها. عندما رآها فيودور دوستويفسكي في بازل عام ١٨٦٧، كتبت زوجته آنا أنه وقف أمامها "كأنه مذهول"، ثم أصرّ على العودة لمشاهدتها مرة أخرى. يتردد صدى هذا اللقاء في رواية "الأبله"، حيث تصبح اللوحة اختبارًا حقيقيًا للإيمان نفسه. لهذا السبب تكمن أهمية مشهد المقعد. يصفه نيتشه بأنه "مجرد طلاء". يجيب دوستويفسكي بالسؤال الحقيقي. إذا لم يُوعدك أحد بشيء، فهل ستختار الرحمة؟ DOSTOYEVSKY•NIETZSCHE Hans Holbein the Younger painted The Body of the Dead Christ in the Tomb in 1521–1522, a shockingly horizontal image, about 30.5 × 200 cm, that forces you to look at Christ as an actual corpse, not a symbol. It’s in Kunstmuseum Basel, and the date and Holbein’s initials are even painted into the work. When Fyodor Dostoevsky saw it in Basel in 1867, his wife Anna wrote that he stood in front of it “as if stunned,” then insisted on returning to look again. The encounter echoes through The Idiot, where the painting becomes a pressure test for belief itself. This is why the bench scene matters.
