@southsudan24_: A South Sudanese student, Viola Eli Bibi Albert, is facing possible imprisonment in Rwanda after being accused of assaulting a university professor and threatening to kill him during a dispute over her grades. The Kigali High Court heard the case on Thursday and scheduled July 31, 2026, for its final verdict. Prosecutors are seeking a 3-year prison sentence, a 500,000 Rwandan franc fine**, and more than 9.2 million Rwandan francs in compensation for the professor. According to court records, the dispute began after the student received 23 out of 60 in a course and allegedly asked the professor to add seven marks so she could pass. The professor refused. The disagreement later escalated, leading to the alleged assault. The student admitted assaulting the professor and apologized, saying she acted out of anger and frustration over her academic difficulties. However, she denied threatening to kill him. The professor rejected reconciliation efforts by the court, saying he could not forgive someone who had allegedly threatened his life. The court's final ruling is expected on July 31, 2026. Is the South Sudanese student being represented by a lawyer? The prosecution action is excessive and the professor is trying to cash in. He should withdraw the case and accept the apology. We’re not perfect in this world. The world is round! I pray for her to be set free and to return to her country.

guys don’t post something you don’t know how it’s started and the picture here is not the person and she didn’t ask the lecturer for any marks to be added, maybe her mistake to put hands on the madam but also know in any country for one to repeat a internship without missing days or month 🥺

I ain't supporting what she did but we need to investigate on professors as well cause sometimes the tone they are using over students is not professional at all. We need to investigate on both sides. There are some professors who are using also their authority to dominate students or getting something in return. Justice and only justice. No favoritism should be tolerate!

l believe the best way to punished a student is either using the university deciplanary standards or deport them never to return. but sending them to jail is too harsh except where the person Committed murder. The court should reconsider their decision. everyone errs, We pray our children studying will never be humiliated in such manner

What i can say is that some countries have strict rules and they don't entertain any form criminality. i stayed in Rwanda but the rules are followed to the dot. unlike Ug,SSD,Kenya where compromises are practiced.

At times, University Education is hard anf sometimes leads to trauma, stress and difficult. With this life some overcome and yet others drown. She made a mistake and deserves to be punished for her careless reaction and words. On the other side, Professor try to act human after words we live in a world where our lives come an end without negotiations. I rest my case by letting the Law to act on this case amicably and balanced

On top of the 9 million he is requesting, you want her to go to jail for 3 years, Nonsense does she have a lawyer even? If there is no proof of her threatening to kill him, the fine only enough even though 9 million is still too much

this is not true. because the high court has no jurisdiction on small matters. so, the competent court is the primary court not the high court!.
