Just a tip from a whitey. Please do summer school in college. It’s often way cheaper, smaller classes and easier classes. I graduated 1.5 years early just doing summer block. If you don’t plan to work during summer that is.

I’m neither Black nor male, but a different type of *general* advice? Make sure he can do the little chores. Like work a washer and dryer, make a grocery list, make simple snacks. And make sure he can self-advocate. Can he tell a professor “I’m falling behind and need help?” Or an administrator, “my transcript is wrong and need someone to handle it immediately?” Those aren’t easy

A tip from a random adult. Do at least one thing you don’t want to everyday. As a young man who wasn’t challenged I wasted a lot of my years yearning to stay in comfort even if that set me back. Everyday you’ll have to do something you don’t want to do I would urge all young people to (men specifically) DO ONE THING YOU DONT WANNA DO A DAY

Great advice To add more details regarding the whole life insurance policy. Insurance Premium payments are very low for an 18 year old. Confirm the policy has a premium lock so the rate remains the same throughout their lifetime regardless of age. Set up automatic premium payments through the parent's checking account ("some" college kids haven't master the art of budgeting) The policy builds cash value which your young adult can borrow against. Your young adult will become his/her own bank. The loan payments are credited back to whole life policy's cash value. Win Win

HEAVY on the “if you can afford it, do not make your child work.” I didn’t have an option, I HAD to work full time and go to school, and I ended up graduating in 5 years, instead of the traditional 4 😩

Also besides Spanish, master another language such as Chinese Arabic Portuguese German Japanese or French. Not knocking Spanish but those other languages have a great need for fields of work. Think worldly for employment not just locally here in the USA
