you are 100% on this. I've been building some apps this last year. some very useful products as well as one I'll be bringing to market. it's very complex. once I get tens of thousands of users it will be hard to manage myself.

LLMs can write "code" like a toddler can draw dinosaurs. the sad thing is you have to understand code to tell the difference, and vibecoders specifically avoid understanding anything complex like code.

If you’re still doing the engineering process, you’re fine. I always handle architectural design and things like that. AI helps to write the code and do the menial tasks. That’s how to properly use it

I’ve only been a software engineer for 20 years, but speaking from experiencing, you can have a ton of success before you need to scale. So much beyond code has to be figured out before needing to scale (you have to figure out what to scale to begin with). Better to do that as cheaply as possible, and for that, these AI tools are phenomenal.

The biggest problem is that it will make some really bad database structure choices that are kind of subtle. And sometimes it is impossible to migrate away from those bad choices.

This seems like dated advice. I built my architecture with local agents and deployed on the App stores and currently have 50+ users. I'm monitoring EVERYTHING so don't take this man's advice. Just build and learn as much as possible then hire someone to babysit the Git and database.

Non technical people can't understand what scaling means. Scaling needs a great understanding of almost all the basics for you to scale anything.

AI can do it all. All you need is someone with common sense who can do basic research and learn how to leverage AI. I understand how many software engineers are threatened by this and wanna live in their denial disneyland, but facts don't care. I am a software engineer myself 😅

the majority of apps don't need to scale to millions or even thousands worse case scenario theres 10 people on it at the same time. thats the reality of the software needs of most buisnesses

AI models are amazing in pattern recognition, so in the end they will find patterns in professional scalable applications made by "software engineer" and at that point it will be good to be scaled from day 1
