@anmol44758: She thought she was taking medicine for morning sickness. Instead, it changed her life forever. In 1962, Sherri Chessen Finkbine—known to children as "Miss Sherri" on Romper Room—was pregnant with her fifth child when she unknowingly took thalidomide, a drug later linked to devastating birth defects. Doctors warned her the baby would likely suffer severe, fatal deformities. Wanting to spare her child from unimaginable suffering, Sherri sought an abortion. But Arizona law prohibited it, and after her story became public, the hospital refused to help. Facing intense media attention, threats, and public condemnation, Sherri traveled to Sweden, where doctors confirmed the fetus had catastrophic abnormalities and performed the procedure. When she returned home, she lost her television job simply for making a deeply personal medical decision. Although her career suffered, her case sparked a nationwide conversation about reproductive rights and helped shape public opinion on abortion in America. Sherri never claimed the decision was easy. She said it was the hardest choice of her life—but one she never regretted. Her story became a symbol of how one woman's private medical crisis changed a national debate.

she didn't unknowingly take the drug. thalidomide was regularly prescribed for morning sickness in fact it was nearly exclusively prescribed for that which is why we have a whole generation of the thalidomide babies.

How yall going to be mad about a mom that loved her child so much that she didn’t force it to live a life with “catastrophic deformities”??? And then yall judge her like she’s the evil one. Take a look in the mirror.

She had the good fortune to be able to afford to go overseas for the care. Most women don’t have that luxury.

It's 2026 now and the government is/has taken our rights for an abortion away from women. Why are we going backwards?

How was thalidomite be allowed to be taken as morning sickness meds? The FDA has to answer for this.

People who decide to have these children usually need financial help from the government. Many people get angry about that too. So, damned if they do and damned if they don’t. Either choice that a woman makes in this situation is heartbreaking.
