@teresondupuy: Sometimes the healthiest shift you can make is to stop seeing someone as purely “evil” and start seeing them as deeply unwell. Many people who struggle with narcissistic traits, severe avoidance, or addiction carry profound emotional wounds. Unhealed trauma can distort the way a person sees themselves, other people, and the world. It can leave them endlessly searching for something outside themselves to fill an inner emptiness that never seems satisfied. From a spiritual perspective, you may see this as a person becoming consumed by fear, ego, or darkness instead of living from love. Whatever language you use, the result is often the same: manipulation, self-protection, emotional disconnection, and pain that spreads to the people closest to them. That doesn’t mean you should tolerate harmful behavior. Compassion does not require proximity. You can pray for someone’s healing while still protecting your own peace. You can wish them awakening while refusing to participate in the patterns that keep both of you suffering. Pray that they remember who they truly are beneath the wounds. Pray that you remember who you truly are beneath yours. Because the goal isn’t to defeat another person. The goal is for both souls to return to wholeness—even if that journey happens separately.
