But, most people I have met in my life are like that. including family, friends and partners. When I meet someone capable of holding, and be responsible for their own behavior, and impact it has on others, I am stunned, like I saw some very rare animal 😄

Complex childhood trauma is all around us. Many of these behavioral mechanisms are the effects. Awareness can make us milder towards them. They are just performing to protect and sooth themselves.

my ex husband said he didn't understand empathy. He didn't understand the concept of 'putting yourself in someone else's shoes'.
After 10yrs,I was done,spent,exhausted!

That’s when you disengage and stop pouring anymore energy into that relationship. Keep it surface level, waste as little of yourself as possible.

This. It was so so sad to see that from an outside lense when he was like this. No matter the soft tone and perfect communication helped. He always defended and darvo:d back. It was exchausting but also sad to see that he was basically trapped in this limited mindset of a bubble😪 we ended bc of this reason. He gave up bc he couldnt fix his side of the issues, aka take accountability and be emotionally present.

I married someone like that. It was so confusing and exhausting to be with her. It took a toll on my mental health. And after 9 years, she still acts confused why I was upset and calls me toxic for always bringing up problems.

Yup! That’s why it’s refreshing to leave them exactly where they’re at and never look back 🥰 Let them call you bitter or self righteous because they’re just projecting their negativity since you’re comfortable walking away from them and creating distance for life

Conflict as a sign of lack of capacity is a very real thing - typically on both sides.😳
