it simply means they now have families they are responsible for.
If a parent has spent years using guilt, emotional manipulation, or lies to keep children emotionally attached, those same children may begin to see that parent as an obstacle to their own peace and family. Instead of enjoying a healthy relationship with their parents, they may start creating distance because every interaction comes with guilt, pressure, or emotional demands.
No parent should want that.
The best gift we can give our children is honesty. Tell them, in an age-appropriate way, who their father is. Explain why the relationship ended without poisoning their minds against him. Let them see maturity, not bitterness. Let them learn forgiveness, not revenge.
Personally, I would rather my children hear the truth from me than have strangers tell them the truth wrapped in bitterness, rumours, and half-truths. Trust, once broken, is difficult to rebuild.
As parents, our responsibility is not to own our children forever but to raise emotionally healthy adults who can trust us, respect us, and willingly keep us in their lives—not because they feel guilty, but because they genuinely love us.
