@joshuagonzalezmd: Sometimes you don’t need a finger up your butt. Sometimes you do. A PSA blood test has replaced the rectal exam for some prostate screenings, but not all of them. The blood test can catch elevated PSA levels that may point to prostate cancer, infection, or an enlarged prostate. But the rectal exam still matters because it can pick up things a PSA test might miss, including some cancers that don’t raise PSA at all. So no, the finger isn’t always necessary.
