They did a good job replacing the nobody scene by having him shoot Polyphemus after they were out. Because Odysseus is nothing if not arrogant

Also the Nobody scene only works if there’s other Cyclops nearby to come check on Polyphemus, that’s why he tricks him in the first place. For the film, it works so much better that he lives completely alone, bothering no one, with his sheep, and Odysseus and his men were ready to raid his cave and maim him anyway. It’s a repeat of what they did at Troy. It’s what they would’ve done to Circe too. It’s key that both Polyphemus and Circe are alone if they were left alone would be harmless and *the men* are the ones invading their homes and paying the price.

The scream truly was haunting. Loud and overwhelming too. Theres at least 3 great, probably unintentional, jump scares using sound that I loved.

Avidly waiting for your video on Agamemnon’s facelessness!!! (I know you’ll have feelings on it lol). If you liked the Agamemnon portion of the movie, read Elektra by Jennifer Saint!

I love that Nolan skipped over the “Nobody” section. It would not have fit his tone of film thats very serious and epic and gothic/horror at times. In the books it fits perfectly because of the setup and tone and narrative. I agree 100%

The Odyssey is a story about the loss of humanity and the sins of man’s past.

If I remember correctly, technically speaking Polyphemus was by cyclops standards a child. He's very young and arrogant compared to older cyclops who are all claimed by Posidon. At least that's what I remember I could be MEGA wrong

ive only seen the movie once but it seems like every time Odysseus attacks someone without fair warning (like plucking his bow) he is punished for it. The whole journey as a whole seems to be his punishment to himself for the Trojan horse and the deception of Sinnon, actions that run counter to the nature of a person who is shown to pluck their bow to give their quarry a chance/to make a fair fight. IIRC he doesnt pluck the bow either when he shoots the Cyclops and that causes Poseidion to turn on him

If Odysseus had listened to his men that suggested leaving the cave and went “you know what? yeah let’s camp out and see who this cave belongs to before we engage with them” they’d have seen it was a cyclops and been able to dip.

I feel like the movie was missing the whimsy from the original poem. Nolan is too self serious. Still a good movie but it was missing something.
