I love Anshi but I hate that people portray her as some savior to the other girls because that was not her main motivation for assaulting the Emporer. it was her pride and her hurt. He had told her he loved HER, valued HER, he painted her and made her feel special, she gave him an heir and her body was forever marked because of it. Then he had the audacity to turn away from her in disgust, to avoid even looking her in the eye he ignored her existence and pursued young girls. Thats when she realized she was not special. she was not his love and his joy. she was a victim who grew too old for his use. That insult to her could not stand so she forced him to look at her. really look at her and look at what he did to her. She is such a complex character and while she is kind, almost to a fault, it was her pride that made her take action against him.

I love that apothecary diaries gives a level of depth to two egregious actions, but one was actually meant to stop another, which is strange to say but unfortunately, in my eyes, she’s not as evil as him. I know a lot of people will still call her evil for what she did, but I would rather have him traumatized than what he was doing to those girls.
