The AC has to cool EVERYTHING. AIR, walls, furniture. If you turn it off, it has to run to cool off EVERYTHING again. Runs harder. Find your sweet spot, set it, leave it. Close blinds, curtains, keep out sunlight. Change that filter monthly preferably.

Can confirm. I stopped turning my off and up and down ect - I leave it alone and it saves me about 60 a month

YES!!! And you do not save money for turning it off. Because it takes more work to continue cool again and again. More energy more money.

I had a leak in my ceiling for months and when I complained to the leasing office maintenance came in and said my ceiling was leaking because I had my AC off and window open and I could be held responsible for damage

i live in a rent stabalize bldg. it came with two ACs, one dinosaur age and the other about 30yrs old, i don't trust leaving them on on auto, the dinosaur AC doesn't have auto and they don't pay my electric bill. which in the summer is almost $200 per month, so three months total.

I offered to buy a smart thermostat to better manage the apartment when I’m gone, the property said no. So now I run that at 69 all year round, even when I am gone for weeks (I pay a flat rate utility fee) 🤷 I tried.
