Built in 1884 over Hickory Creek, the historic iron bridge once carried travelers along the main road between Denton and Dallas. Local legend says goat farmer Oscar Washburn was killed there during the 1930s and that his spirit still haunts the creek, although historians have not verified the full story. Today, the bridge is open only to pedestrians and horseback riders. A family friend testified today that professional football player Terrion Arnold "is a very innovative young man" who "likes to benefit the community" and "is one of the most caring people I've ever met." "He has special relationships with his family, as you can see here," said Kristen Erica White, referring to Arnold's family in the courtroom. "He has a great-grandmother and he has a six-week old-daughter, and he so cares about family. He is wanting to be the best version of himself. And I've personally observed this." White is the general counsel for the Florida State Courts System but said she was testifying only in her personal capacity. White said Arnold calls her his aunt, and she considers him to be her nephew. She said he's "a very spiritual person, and he is so concerned about his relationship with God, and wanting to make sure that he is a good example to society and to those coming up behind him." White testified in Arnold's bond hearing in Florida's 13th Judicial Circuit in Tampa. Judge Christopher Sabella granted him $1 million bond against the recommendation of prosecutors. Arnold's lawyer Harvey Steinberg asked White to discuss "whether or not he, in your opinion, poses a danger to the community or to anyone." "I absolutely do not think he poses any danger. Terrion is one of the most caring people I've ever met. Every time he comes home, he's going to see people in the community, putting on events to help support young people. I have known him personally for the last six years, and I've never seen anything about him that indicates that he's a danger to any person," White said. "There are certain people who have a criminal mindset, which means they're just criminals. Would you put Mr. Arnold in that mindset?" Steinberg asked. "Absolutely not. The Arnold family is one of the most caring people. And if I may, your honor, my mother recently was in hospice, and she passed away, and this particular family helped me care for her, helped me to support her. They have raised him right," White testified. "His mother, his grandmother, his uncle, all of these things. So no, Tarrion is not a danger. Tarrion is a very respectful young man, and I think he is an inspiration, and I would not be here on this stand testifying on his behalf if I thought otherwise." Steinberg asked if she knows "what Mr. Arnold does for a living?" "Well, he's an NFL football player," White answered. "And does he currently play for the Detroit Lions as a cornerback?" Steinberg asked. "He does," White answered. The Lions released Arnold from the team shortly after the hearing, so that's no longer true. "Has he committed in terms of his discipline and doing what he's supposed to do?" Steinberg asked. "Absolutely. Terrion has been working since he's been six years old to get the achievement that he has today, and he's very concerned about making sure that he's a good example for those coming up behind him," White answered. "If this judge should deem it appropriate that he get a bond, would you ensure and make every effort that he would comply with terms of the bond?" Steinberg asked. "Absolutely," White answered. "Would you have any concerns that he wouldn't?" Steinberg asked. "No," White answered. "In terms of his ability to follow direction and instruction and authority, have you ever seen any problems with that?" Steinberg asked"I have not," White answered. Prosecutors allege Arnold, 23, had three men in their late teens, including his driver, held at gunpoint in a Tampa apartment in February, where they were pistol-whipped and beaten. Arnold suspected the men stole luxury items and $100,000 in cash from him. Arnold is one of seven co-defendants in the case. The 2024 first-round draft pick was arrested on June 24 on charges of four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery. #law #crime #court
