Hey I lost my childhood dog about a month ago because of cancer but this dog went with me and my family through everything. My dad was a HORRIBLE alcoholic and there was once a time when he admitted he hated me before he went to rehab. He was in rehab for a while and then he gave up on it I guess and drank something so strong he went insane and ended up getting shot. It’s was all over the news, people started to think I was just like my dad. I lost friends. I even lost my best friend because she decided to turn on me saying I was lying about my best dog friend having cancer. Lost even more friends. Then, I lost my grandad. My dad’s dad. That hit even harder than my dad. Then my dog, Leo developed cancer in his mouth. He had a strange bump like thing in his lower jaw. We had recently gotten a cat so we thought she had scratched him. By the time we found out it was cancer, there was a surgery possible if the surgeons said that it wouldn’t harm him. They would take out the entire bottom jaw. It was too late. We could always to treatment but he would still not live a full life and only about 4-6 months. We decided to spend as much time with him as possible and not put him through that pain of the treatment. Then one day my mom called my brother and I to the living room and thought it was time. We arrived at the vet but the news we got was unexpected. The veterinarian gave us a medicine that may help with the bleeding because he had lost his right jaw already and it was very easy to make his cancer bump bleed. It help for about 2 weeks till Leo could not eat, barely walk or see because his eye was sinking into the hole in his jaw. That day we took him to a different vet to put him down. We had to wait about an hour knowing our sweet boy would be gone that day. When the veterinarian started the process we played my dad’s favorite song. He was gone. I hit rock bottom for sure. Life was filled with bad luck and satin grabbed a hold on me. I then began to self harm myself. Nobody noticed. I had a horrible attitude that I couldn’t control. Nobody understood me not even my therapist. Then I went to a camp at a Church that changed my life in the best way possible. Pt2 below

I am so incredibly sorry you are going through this and it breaks my heart to see people being so cruel and heartless when you are already dealing with such a devastating loss. Losing a dog is losing a family member because the grief is heavy and deeply painful and completely valid so please dont let anyone minimize the love you have for your pup or how much it hurts to say goodbye. People who comment things like that clearly have never known the unconditional love of a pet or they are just completely lacking in basic empathy so please do not listen to them or let their ignorance make you feel like you shouldnt be sharing your beautiful memories. You have every right to honor your dog and to cry openly and to process this heartbreak however you need to without being judged for it. Please block out that toxic noise and protect your peace right now and know that there are so many of us who truly understand just how empty the world feels when a beloved pet passes away. If you ever need a safe space to vent or cry or share pictures or just talk about how much you miss your sweet pup without any judgment whatsoever my DMs are always completely open for you so please dont hesitate to reach out if you need a friend.
