D&D rushed it because the closure of a show doesn't bring new viewers, they put all their time into their new project which they lost the contract too due to the backlash of messing up Game of Thrones, it was all for nothing. I absolutely detest these two and the writers

you're underestimating the gods' 300 year long plan (400 and more if you include Daenys the dreamer and everything that gave rise to dragons and dragonriders) to have the prince that was promised protecting the living at the right time. to have Arya trained by the Faceless Men. to have Melisandre support Stannis, then Jon, then Arya at the right times to do so. (to have Beric/Catelyn survive up until serving the mission). to have Brynden Rivers, and then Bran, orchestrate a series of events so that humanity and its knowledge could be saved. and it was done by the skin of everybody's teeth because it was a matter of seconds whether the night king got to kill the TER and ride off on dead viserion, which would've been the end of humanity, or the army of the dead died before/after erasing knowledge of humanity. of course the battle for the survival of humany lasted 40 minutes, that's how quick that threat could be able to exterminate a civilization and bring an ever lasting winter

And remember. Long Night is heavily implied that it would last years with an S. Danny’s dragons are only the size of a horse in book 5. It would take easily a decade for them to grow bigger and fight the walkers. Like that was a pure cash cow for HBO. They eff it up. That was the whole point of the last book being called DREAM OF SPRING!!! Cause they stuck in a perpetual WINTER!!! 🤦🏾♂️
