they clearly were not asking for advice, they were advising you about its insensitivity. You shouldn’t of said that in the first place, even if you misread it or not, someone talking about their experience with SA is not something to go ‘am I supposed to give you medical advice for you pelvis?’ You know that’s wrong, WE know that’s wrong, do not attempt to downplay it and just simply say it as it was. I think, coming from someone who's older, rather than apologising and then denying or trying to defend what you did, just simply apologise, admit you're wrong and that should be all that needs to happen. Extending it with "but I did it because of this" or anything like that makes your apology less valid
