Cheap? New Telluride is like $65K. Might as well get a new Highlander for a couple thousand more.

I work at a Kia dealership and your right, got a lady right now oil is leaking thru the sensor into the wiring for the injectors and she doesn’t want to fix it, she’s gonna keep driving it until that 1k repair turns to 3

The Hyundai’s and the Kia’s are inexpensively made. The poor maintenance on top of that makes them even worse.

Valid aside from the Kia suol, those are ticking time bombs. But my moms got a 2013 sorento with 230k. It’s had suspension work and ac work and some emissions stuff but nothing crazy

53k miles on a 23 Forte GT, zero issues, I even have a piggyback tune and other mods on it while dogging on it. It loves to drive

One of the techs I worked with said that the new GDI engines were more prone to failure because of the carbon build-up in the combustion chamber and on the valves. With GDI, you don't get any fuel that washes over the valves like you do with multi-port injection. We probably had a handful of engines we replaced every week at Kia. It never stopped.

This is my argument with German cars. I maintain mine religiously myself and have had minimal issues. I CONSTANTLY see people pull up in their 550is, Eclasses etc. and just go with 89octane at the gas station. If you can’t even put the proper fuel in your premium car, I just know the oil changes are either neglected, or done at a Take 5 type shop.

it's the same issue with mopars. when taken care of properly they last forever. plenty of hemi powered cars I've personally seen over 150k miles with minimal issues when maintained. but the brand attracts people who beat their cars and rarely maintain them

worked at a hyundai dealer in 2022 and there was a brand new Palisade that came in because the customer said it had zero power and it made weird noises, well turns out they never changed the oil in it for 25k miles there was only 1 quart in it and the turbo was locked up. they expected hyundai to replace the engine and turbo under warranty and where mad when it got declined for clear neglect, they ended up trading in the car and buying a Nissan I laughed when I saw that.

if kia would honor their warranty and not put crap engines in their cars, they would be good cars

As someone who has worked at a Kia dealer for nearly a year. Older ones are semi poorly built. But not as bad as people say. New ones are actually fairly reliable all things considered. It really does mainly come down to the cheap customer base. The amount of denied maintenance/service is ridiculous. And cars that will come in for their first oil change at 8-12,000 miles. Or go 10k plus between is upsettingly high. I’m no Kia glazer but the 2021 up Kia’s are actually fairly good cars for the current market
