It’s so scary. It’s like giving permission to men to call us crazy

My hormones don't do anything to me. I don't feel any different at any time of the month. Except ovulation pain lol. All these talks about "being luteal" and stuff seem completely alien to me.

I feel like the only person in this comment section that is actually painfully affected by their cycle😭 i get so fucking depressed and irritable in my luteal phase, emotionless during my period and only ever stable during ovulation

My period has never impacted me at all. I dont have mood changes. I dont have cramps. I feel bad for the other ladies but it annoys me that they make it sound like periods is some sort of huge issue for all of us

I agree I sometimes have pretty painful periods but I don't experience notable emotional fluctuations through my cycle and I'm tired of people pretending it's a massive part of having a period or exaggerating it to appeal to misogyny

My hormones don’t impact my moods or energy etc. So hearing how it impact other women so severely feels concerning. It never sounded normal to me. It always felt like there should be something looked into further. I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of women have pmdd without knowing it.

Idk I understand your point in this video but it seems to me like a lot of the ladies commenting missed the mark and it sounds like they are invalidating women’s experiences calling it “misogyny” when some women really do have awful experiences throughout the month, debilitatingly mental or physical. We need to remember as women that just because you cannot relate to another women’s pain doesn’t mean they are over exaggerating or making it up.

Pregnancy ,period and childbirth are associated with complex neuroplastic changes ,there’s no scientific evidence showing we are less or cant function during this changes

there’s actually interesting studies that call the causal correlation between hormones and mood into question! they are suggesting that socialization has a much bigger impact on how pms presents than biology. not that we’re making the symptoms up but that they are much more likely anger, sadness and exhaustion caused by the stressers of patriarchy than our bodies.

I resonate with only feeling normal for one week out of the month. I have PMDD and getting my period is always a horrible experience. It only affects me, I don’t let it interfere with my work or my success. Life is hard but just bc a lot of us struggle on our periods doesn’t mean we’re incapable of pushing through

I was shockingly angry when I learned that men have a hormonal 24 hour long cycle. The only reason they don't struggle is because THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS SET UP FOR THEM

Yesss, I wrote my research proposal for my Anthropology of Healing course on the stigma surrounding menstruation and menstruating bodies. There are easily over a thousand euphemisms used to describe menstruation, most being negative. One of my favourite reads was Maureen C. McHugh and her idea of “menstrual moaning” and the “menstrual closet”. She spoke of how menstruating people are made to feel like the only way they’re allowed to discuss their menstruation is by negatively speaking of it, and so we’re conditioned to dilute our lived experiences in order to be taken seriously in society, etc. (that’s just a small thing, the conversation of course goes much deeper than that but I can’t write a novel in the comment section)
