This is the beginning of Revelation 13. "This is educational history about the Scramble for Africa (1881-1914) and the Battle of Tondibi. No modern politics, just facts." The Songhai Caliphate was defeated by the Moroccan Sultanate at the Battle of Tondibi in 1591. Although Morocco conquered Songhai, it was unable to effectively govern its vast territories because of the great distance across the Sahara, logistical difficulties, and local resistance. As Moroccan authority weakened, regional rulers and local warlords emerged, and the former Songhai Empire fragmented into smaller states. The political fragmentation that followed made many regions more vulnerable to external influence and conflict. Slave raids also increased in many areas, with captives being sold through trans-Saharan and coastal trading networks. Many of these enslaved Africans were supplied to European slave traders and transported across the Atlantic as part of the transatlantic slave trade. Over the following centuries, many African states remained politically divided. During the Scramble for Africa (1881–1914), European colonial powers took advantage of this fragmentation, as well as rivalries among African states, to conquer and divide much of the continent. The partition of Africa was formalised at the Berlin Conference of 1884–1885. The principal European powers that colonised Africa during the Scramble for Africa were Portugal, Italy, Germany, Spain, Belgium, France, and Britain. Before the Scramble for Africa, other European nations, including Sweden, Denmark, and the Netherlands, had also established colonies or trading settlements in parts of Africa, although on a much smaller scale. Earlier in European history, the Protestant Reformation began in the early 16th century and led to a series of religious and political conflicts that lasted until the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. Centuries later, these European powers expanded their overseas empires and turned their attention to Africa. The Scramble for Africa took place between approximately 1881 and 1914. During this period, the major European powers rapidly invaded, partitioned, and colonised nearly 90% of the African continent. The process was formalised at the Berlin Conference of 1884–1885, where European powers established the rules for claiming African territory. By the outbreak of the First World War in 1914, almost the entire continent had been divided among European colonial powers. This is true history! #christianity #speakercorner #biblicalprophecy
