@iqindex: A $17B refinery needs 700,000 barrels a day. Kenya can supply 120,000 at best. So where's the rest coming from? Look at the map. 🗺️ #IQIndex #Dangote #somalitiktok #kenyantiktok🇰🇪 #oil

The main reason Lamu was chosen is the port, capable of berthing ships that can deliver large amounts of crude imports (even Nigeria's refinery relies heavily on imported crude due to supply bottlenecks and shortfalls, FYI). Fun fact: Cheap crude can be imported from middle east and Asia to fill in any raw material supply gap. Although it would be best for all parties to source for crude from neighbouring countries (Somalia, Ethiopia, SSD and UG), it is not the only option for the refinery to be financially viable. Also, the refinery is not 'owned' by Dangote, several governments in the EAC and other private investors have already committed to investing in the development. Very interesting perspective though. In my opinion the best bet is for Oil Producing governments in the region to invest in the refinery and benefit from value addition of their raw crude, and increased revenues from the project.

Great topic and Content;..About Sourcing Crude Oil 🛢️for the Dangote Refinery, I believe Security and Economics will Determine the decisions ..⁉️I doubt the Dangote Refinery would Risk buying contested Oil from a Failed State like Somalia when Cheaper Older Sources Exist from Saudi or the Gulf not to mention the Western African sources which are not politically Contested. The Crude Quality and Cost of The Crude is important but Security is Paramount.

Dangote isn't building the refinery for Kenya's oil alone. He's betting on East Africa's growing fuel market. Uganda's oil is likely to be the main crude source, with Kenya, South Sudan, and possibly Somalia contributing later. Any shortfall can be covered through imported crude. It's a long term regional strategy, not a Kenya only project.

Somalia, to me, have great potential in individual capacity for what it lacks in the collective or institutional capacity. The other thing is, Somalia is a unique society as opposed to the rest of African nations, the two overarching unifying elements of language and faith closes a plethora of bureaucratic obstacles and this may come in very handy.

Uganda crude Oil is the primary target of the Dangote Refinery. Kenya must sink more Oil wells so as to make it's Oil commercially viable. Somalia will initially export crude oil before building it's own refinery which will offer good competition to the Dangote refinery. Ultimately the Citizens and Governments of the East African Countries will be the real winners.

if your car can go to speeds of up to 250kph it doesn't mean you drive at 250kph anytime you're on the wheel.... that's capability, the number of barrels per day indicates how efficient the refinery works, doesn't mean it must hit that target daily!!!!

Somalia has 270 blocks and each block holds 10 billion barrels of oil so you multiply 270 blocks by 10 billion. We need more than one refinery once we drill more blocks.

Never understood somali hate for Kenya,I mean we've helped somali in combating terrorism when it was leaking into kenya,lost many lives in fighting for somalia and also internally like in Garisssa uni and Westgate,to some semblance of normalcy now in Somalia and thriving yet we're always viewed with cautionary eyes from Somalis, The lamp port will be successful and it will serve the region well,if somali,uganda,s.sudan or drc are willing to work with Kenya that will be fantastic but we will not be on a mission of endless persuasion to any country why Lamu refinery is good for the region

That's why being established at a port. Crude will come from all over right from Ethiopia Uganda Tanzania and other markets globally. If Somalia wants to sell its crude it is welcome or it can as well join the deal like the other East Africa neighbors
